FAQ'S

Question:

Will there be a cost associated with my request?

Answer:

Many School District of Lee County documents are available online. Citizens are encouraged to seek documents there first and to use the online request system, NextRequest, for requesting records that are not available online.

Pursuant to Florida law, the School District may implement a special services charge that is reasonable and reflects actual costs when the nature and volume of public records requested requires extensive use of resources. Florida courts have interpreted “extensive use” to mean when the process to produce the records (including collection and review for exempt and/or confidential material) takes more than 15 minutes.

The School District will furnish copies of public records based on the following fee schedule:

  • Staff time in excess of fifteen (15) minutes- base hourly rate of staff compiling the request.
  • Electronic device storage – a reasonable market cost may be charged for thumb drives, DVDs, audio tapes, etc.
  • Single-sided copies - $0.15 each; double-sided copies - $0.20 each.
  • The full cost of postage and packaging will be charged to the requester.

Question:

Can I remain anonymous?

Answer:

Personal information is visible only to staff by default, but requests are part of the public record and your information may be released in response to a public records request, unless you indicate that you are making your request anonymously. If you request to remain anonymous, your contact information will only be used for the purposes of communication and providing the records regarding this request.

Question:

How soon will the School District respond to my records request?

Answer:

The School District responds to public records requests in the order in which they are received. Due to the volume of public records requests received by the District, we cannot guarantee that your public records request will be processed within a specific number of days. Nevertheless, the District responds to every public records request promptly and in good faith, and within the limited, reasonable time allowed by law.
